April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing guitar and taking piano classes, which ignited her passion for music writing. At the age of 12 April composed her first single Different. The singer spent much of her time at 14 making songs and practicing music. She started writing songs with her dad at home in NY and LA shortly after. April also added additional themes to the song "Take My Hand" for some of the friends she had who struggled with problems like peer pressure, problems, as well as teenager suicide. Lockhart collaborates with the well-known cosmetics brand Ilia and is also a lifestyle blogger with her own growing following. She has a disability that is a component of her identity, but it is not the whole image. Because of this, her Instagram profile isn't afraid to talk about her disability, but it's not focused on her disability as well. What's the message? It's important to keep in mind that each of us has numerous faces. Our identities are diverse and we are much more than our bodies. Lockhart stated in a video interview that she does not want to be defined by her handicap. She doesn't want to be a disability advocate who only speaks about it. There are a lot of aspects to Lockhart. It doesn't impact my daily routine. I still do all the things I normally would and have adapted to the limitations of my disability. But, I consider it a very important part of myself. Self-acceptance can be a marathon for a lifetime however Lockhart is a true inspiration in this regard. She still admits having gone through a few phases regarding her appearance, feeling insecure at times to wear clothes that showed the arms of her. Today, she wears anything she wants. She also posts her pictures to social networks. Self-love, she says, is like a journey. "I believe that you will ever be in that place," she said. It's a long journey. I'm not sure you'll ever reach your destination. I think it's important to surround yourself with people who are able to identify and feel your heart.
