Laura Linney is an American actor, who became well-known for her performance of vulnerable but strong characters. Linney was born to an unmarried single mother who worked as a nurse. Linney became interested with theatre in summers spent by her famous father. She studied acting through Brown University, and later in Juilliard School. In the two years following her graduation, she launched her Broadway career. A few years later, she was she was on television. In the years since, she's appeared in numerous films, television productions and stage plays. Through her entire professional career, she's received numerous awards. These include the two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. Her nominations include five Tony Awards as well as three Oscar Awards nominations. But, in spite of her distinctions and awards, theater is her main interest and she will continue to play on stage and screen.
